Letting go of fear

Feel the fear and do it anyway? I wholeheartedly believe that fear can be overcome, not necessarily by pushing through it, avoiding it or pretending its not there, but by surrendering to it.

Why would we want to surrender to fear? Wouldn't it mean we feel more fear? Interestingly, no!

When we surrender to fear we allow it to be, when we do this, were no longer suppressing or shoving it away, were just ok to be with it. Feeling it doesn't mean it lasts forever, just moments or minutes and then we feel lighter.

When we resist what we feel, we push down our emotions into our body and over time this energy creates pressure, taking away from our life-force energy and colouring the way we see life.

The energy of unprocessed emotions we've got bottled up inside determines how we perceive the world, a person full of fear will see an unsafe and fearful world, a person full of anger will see a world with judgement and full of conflict.

When were walking around with the pressure of all our suppressed emotions within us, it doesn't take much for the emotions to spill out! Then we begin to blame other people for how we feel and project our own stuff onto others.

We feel emotions in our body, fear can create a dry mouth, trembling body, gut pain or spasms, sore lower back, weak muscles, light headedness, racing heart, sick feelings, all these sensations are just that, sensations.

We wrongly think that people or situations are the cause of our emotions however this is simply not possible! we are the source of our emotions, external events are merely the catalyst for us to experience whats already going on inside us on some level.

The source of fear is our own accumulated energy - David R Hawkins

Since we are the source of ALL our emotions, we have the opportunity to change how we feel, not by distracting or chasing for a positive thought or experience but by feeling what were experiencing.

Imagine a pipe thats clogged, the water can't move past and begins to build up, the pressure accumulates, the water will eventually spurt through wether we choose to remove whats clogging the pipe or the pressure becomes so great that the water breaks though on its own. The pressure in the pipe are our suppressed emotions, all the feelings that we haven't let ourselves feel or express or were taught are not ok or acceptable.

We can choose to clean our own pipes or we can consciously or unconsciously spray our emotional build up onto people around us. Which do you think would be more effective for you and your relationships?

Theres no need to fear the fear when you're the owner of it! there is a limited amount of energy to release, If you let yourself feel without resisting it will pass, you won't be stuck in the sensations forever!

So how do you surrender to the pressure and clean the pipes?
  • Be 100% willing to take responsibility for how you feel
  • Know that you are capable of feeling the sensations of emotion in your body
  • Close your eyes, connect with your body and feel the sensations you feel without labelling or judging the feeling
  • Let go of resisting or wanting to change the sensations, just be with yourself
  • Disregard thoughts that try to make sense or create a story around what you're feeling, you are not your thoughts, the magic is in being with the feeling
  • After some time the feeling and pressure will go, it may be moments or minutes
  • Repeat this process whenever you feel negative emotions arise

Its important to know that just because you do this process once with fearful feelings in your body that you'll never feel fear again, its likely that theres a collection of fear to let go of and each situation that triggers you is an opportunity to let go some more!
